one of a kind original painting
This is an original artwork created in 2022 in northern California. This artwork is inspired from sitting in Native American Tipi ceremony and watching the droplets of water bounce off the water drum as it is played with song and prayer. The water drum is a sacred tool used in the Native American Church. It is a metal three footed pot that contains water fassend with a hide, stones, and a rope to create a drum.
This drum was created in the times that the Native American people were incarcerated and not allowed to pratice their culture and spiritual practices. The drum was disguised as a cooking pot when not in use as a drum. In the ceremony the drum represents the heartbeat. The waterbird is also an important symbol in this ceremony.
